Square ZChiller Performance Data!

Posted on July 24th, 2014 by zchillers

The following results were obtained by testing a water-water system. User results will vary slightly due to the increased viscosity of the wort, volume of wort in the kettle, and variability of user’s setup (tube/hose diameter, gravity feed height, pump throughput, etc.).

In these tests, 5 gallons of boiling water were gravity-fed through the inner tube of our Square ZChiller with the cooling water being pumped in the opposite direction between the inner tube and outer shell. The water was pumped at a flow rate of 1.6 GPM (typical flow rate of a home sink faucet). The flow rate of the gravity-fed boiling water was varied between tests with a ball valve to get a more comprehensive data set. The temperature of the cooling water was changed between tests due to variability of users’ groundwater temperatures.
